Great Sahara – 15 Days

Day 1: TRIPOLI
Arrival in Tripoli and transfer to hotel.

Day 2: Tripoli – Ghadames
Departure from Tripoli by minibus to one of the most beautiful cities classified as a UNESCO heritage, the oasis of Ghadames. You take the direction of Ghadames and you go through the massive Jebel Nafusah and you visit the old town of Berber village of Nalut. Arrival in Ghadames in the afternoon.

Day 3: Ghadames – HAMADA EL Amrat
In the morning visit the oasis of Ghadames, known as “the pearl of the desert” before taking the road through the desert plateau of El Hamada Hamra.

Day 4: ROAD TO EL Amrat HAMADA
You continue on the trail of the great southern Libya, one of the largest sand dunes of the Sahara, the desert plateau of El Hamada Amrat. In this very arid region, the desert continues to infinity.

Day 5: HAMADA – MAGHIDET
You cross the big dunes of lIdehan Oubari up “labyrinth” of the magical rocky tassilis Maghidet you reach the end of the day. The rocky peaks of odd-shaped black stone of Marat-rat welcome you for the night.

Day 6: MAGHIDET – ALAWINAT – ADJUSTED CAMP
Maghidet you leave to join the camp of Alawinat. You visit the engravings of Wanragaya before leaving for Aramnudaden, real forests of rocky peaks nestled in the dunes. Camp at the Village Alawinat or “Serdeles” the gates of Akakus.

Day 7: ALAWINAT – EL ADAD – AKAKOUS
You are at the entrance to the Akakus, bordering the great valley of Wan Kaza. You enter this fantastic open-air museum. Ancient valleys guide you in this maze of lace sandstone forms so strange, stimulating to the imagination. You go to Adad, the famous finger that rises to the sky and so is the landscape around you.

Day 8: AKAKOUS
You continue in this advanced blend of sand and rock carvings. Gradually, you join the Western massif, where the rock is more and more present. Sometimes you leave the heights of the Akakus to reach the bottom of the wadis and discover the paintings. These sites reflect the exceptional climatic conditions of the place, terribly far from the current aridity.

Day 9: AKAKOUS – AFAZEGHAR – WANKASA
After visiting the Ark of Afasajer, you are going to cross the chain of Akakus. The Tadrat opens up before you Wankasa dunes that separate the Akakus Messak Settafet. Overnight camping at Wankasa.

Day 10: WANKASA – IDEHAN Murzuk
A day in the direction of the vehicle Messak Settafet (Methkandoush site) to discover the most beautiful prints of Fezzan. Before coming on this site, you spend the night in Idehan Murzuk, one of the largest ergs of Libya.

Day 11: IDEHAN Murzuk – TOUWIWA
You leave the site of the burning Methkandoush Touwiwa to reach the crest of the dunes which offers a superb blend of scenic dunes, oases, villages and mountains. Overnight camping in tents or, at your discretion.

Day 12: IDEHAN Oubari – SABHA – TRIPOLI
Your trail takes you now to the east. You walk along the great erg Oubari. The dunes hide the salt lakes of Mandara and Um El Ma surrounded by high dunes. A true spectacle of nature offers itself to you, a dream vision, a mirage? … No, a beautiful oasis! Take time to stroll on some sand dunes overlooking the lake and swim and picnic before returning to Sebha in the evening and you fly to Tripoli.

Day 13: Tripoli – Leptis Magna – Tripoli
Day dedicated to the discovery of the ancient city of Leptis Magna, which lies 130 km east of the Libyan capital. The Roman site, one of the most remarkable of Africa, is now World Heritage Site by Unesco. By late afternoon, return to Tripoli.

Day 14: Tripoli – Sabratha – Tripoli
In the morning visit to Sabratha (67 Km west of Tripoli), the “third city” of Tripolitania (with Leptis Magna and Tripoli). Sabratha, first Phoenician, was occupied by the Romans and then destroyed by the Vandals and then rebuilt by the Byzantines before being abandoned. Visit the old city of Tripoli and the museum in the afternoon.

Day 15: TRIPOLI – Departure
Transfer to airport for flight…
